Room in the Inn 2018

Mar 25, 2018

Since 1996, the Urban Ministry Center has partnered with colleges and congregations of many faiths to open their facilities to provide shelter and food for homeless people during the winter months. Each site offers a warm, safe place to sleep, serves three meals (dinner, breakfast and bag lunch) and then returns guests the following morning to uptown Charlotte. The program offers a unique way for people of faith to become directly involved with individuals who are homeless. The basic goal is to keep homeless people from freezing on cold winter nights. A greater goal is to provide a more personal relationship to homeless people, at least for a night, and to foster a deeper understanding of the depth and complexity of the issue.

You can participate as an individual or as a group:

For individuals

1. Shop for general supplies - You can see the current list of needs below. Please check back regularly as this will be updated as needs change.

2. Partner with the Harvest center to help with Harvest Inn (also on Sunday nights). Please email Kristin Randles at kristin@warehouse242.org if you would like to participate in this way.

3. Be matched with a small group already hosting on a Sunday that you are available to help.

For groups:

Sign up for one Sunday night (January through March) for your group to host Room in the Inn from start to finish. While each group will bring their own personalities and ideas to the table, there are some common responsibilities. These are outlined below. If you would like an individual sign up for your group for each of the responsibilities, please email Kristin Randles at kristin@warehouse242.org.
